The 10th International Mediterranean Terracotta Symposium was held from April 10 to 15, hosted by the Lapta-Alsancak-Çamlıbel (LAÇ) Municipality and organized by the Alashia Terracotta Art Collective.
Curated by Ayhatun Ateşin and coordinated by Vedia Okutan Gaydeler, the symposium featured archaeological presentations, experimental practices, and artistic interpretations inspired by artifacts from the archaic period. A total of 12 artists participated in the event. World Peace University faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eser Keçeci Malyalı contributed to the symposium with her artworks. As part of the symposium, the “Archaic Reflections Exhibition” took place on April 12, followed by the “On-Site Sculpture Firing Festival” at the Mediterranean Open-Air Museum on April 13.
This year’s edition of the symposium series—which began in the village of Akdeniz in 2014 and continues under the themes “History Revives” and “Alashia Reborn”—once again emphasized raising awareness about the preservation of cultural heritage. Workshops organized for children aimed to instill cultural heritage consciousness in younger generations.
It was noted that the artworks produced during the symposium will be added to the Mediterranean Open-Air Museum, thereby enriching the museum’s artistic diversity and creating a holistic blend of contemporary art and cultural heritage.
